My dad, brother, myself and my Mum |
My parents are both from Shropshire, but my dad was in the Royal Air Force so he and my mum lived in Uxbridge. I lived in the same house with my mum, dad and brother for 18 years. Very rare for the armed forces!
My childhood was very enjoyable and it was spent playing with the other children on the RAF Camp and then as I hit teenage years, spending time with my friends from secondary school.

When I was 19 I moved to Shropshire with my parents as they inherited my great uncles smallholding. Over the years we acquired many different animals ranging from sheep, pigs and ponies to turkeys and quail!

I BECAME A NANNY!
So now, I spend my days wiping bottoms, clearing up snot, playing, singing, helping them learn and having the most amazing time.
I officially have the best job ever. It is not easy, but it is so rewarding and so much fun.
I was brought up as a Christian (Church of England) but never went to church or did anything remotely religious. In 2010 I went to Africa with Girlguiding UK as part of their Centenary Adventures. It was the BEST two weeks and holiday I have ever had.

I have always believed there is a God but had no idea who He was or what He really was there for. I mulled over it for a very short period whilst in Africa, but then upon my return to England it came back to my mind again as I attended the wedding of my oldest friend, who is a member of The Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I spoke with some of her Mormon friends at the wedding and asked some questions that I had about the Church. They told me to go to the chapel near me the following week, so I did.
On the Saturday evening I went online and spoke with a missionary on Mormon.org. I don’t know why I did this, or how I even found it, but I did and
he explained about Joseph Smith to me and explained how the Sunday meeting
schedule works.
Sunday morning came and I put on a dress and headed to the chapel that
my friend had confirmed was one of her churches a few years previously when it
was being built.
I sat in my car and tried to build up the courage to go inside. I said
to myself in my head that if someone was to go to the front door I would go in.
And then someone walked to the front door. I then had no choice but to go!
I walked to the door and said to the man there that I was new and didn't know what to do. He took me to the missionaries and told them "here is your investigator"! At the time I didn't quite get that people just don't walk into church off of the street. The missionaries both looked a bit puzzled, but especially Elder Hughes who was on his first Sunday out of the Missionary Training Centre.
I stayed until the end of church and Elisabet (who's husband was the Bishop at that time) invited me round to meet with the missionaries. I agreed! That Wednesday I had my first lesson, then one month later I was baptised on the 25th September 2010! The best day of my life, so far.

Life then went on! I still worked in the office, but I now attended Institute (religious classes) and Young Single Adult dances and conventions.
In 2013 I was offered a job as a nanny and moved to Surrey on the bank holiday weekend at the end of August. I was now living 15 minutes from the temple and had missionaries galore to help with their work.
Moving to Surrey was one of the best things I have ever done. It has opened many doors for me and given me so many new opportunities. For example, this blog!
I feel so blessed that I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and that I have the gospel in my life. I am a million times happier than I was before I joined the church. Who knew that was possible when I was happy already?
If you have any questions about my life, or my membership in the Church - feel free to ask! I love a good question!
Sister Nicki* x
*So, I sign myself as Sister Nicki as the missionaries struggle to call me just Nicki. They kept adding Sister to it. Sister Nicki stuck, and that is now my name.
P.S. Sister Stewart helped make this blog. Actually, she did everything. Literally. I am so grateful for her talent and ability to share it with me to enable me to help others help missionaries such as herself. I am also incredibly grateful for the strength and support she gives me that continuously builds me up. Sister Stewart, I love you. Check out her blog linked at the top!
